How Do We Get the Next Generation of Young People Excited About Missions?
How do we get the next generation of young people excited about missions?
How do we get the next generation to embrace leaving behind home, family, jobs, Christmas and Thanksgiving with their relatives? How do you get young people to buy into that?
I think first and foremost you get it from their pastors. If you win the pulpit, if their pastors are bought into this idea this is worth giving your life for, this is worth you going overseas. I'm stunned routinely when I go back and read the highlights of to the Golden Shore and how they sent those missionaries off and what the senior pastor said as he put them on the boat the next day. He said, "We'll see you in Zion someday. We'll come with shouts and we'll be glad to see what the Lord, what the king does among your work of your hands in Burma." That mentality coming from the pulpit: that's a God send to motivate young people that there's more to this life that we have eyes that, we see past this world. That would be my hope: that pastors start teaching with that mentality in mind.
