What Would You Say to a Single Woman Interested in Missions?

Chad Vegas offers suggestions on how to guide women interested in mission work

I have a 30 year old single lady in my church who wants to become a missionary. Where should she start?

I think you would approach that by asking a series of questions to understand what her interest is in missions. If she's wanting to be sent then I would want to be asking questions about what she wants to be sent to do. Does she want to be a part of a church planting team among the unreached? Does she want to go and help in an orphanage? What what are the things that she wants to do?

Then I would go to a series of questions that might be somewhat generic, like: Where is she in her growth in godliness? Does she have the kind of character that you would want in a candidate that you're sending into the mission field? Does she understand the word of God well? Does she depend upon the word of God? Does she have a kind of perseverance that allows her to continue in the work, even though she may never meet and marry a man? Does she have the training or the skills necessary in linguistics, in cultural analysis? Is she able to really get out there and do this job? Or does she need to go through a series of steps to be trained to do it?
