How Can the Church Benefit from Missionary?
How can the church benefit from the Missionary docuseries?
Chad: When we formed the idea of the Missionary series our hope was that the church might be able to use this in a variety of ways. One they could use it in a Sunday school class, so week by week they could show the 45-minute video and they could talk about the principles they're learning biblically. They could use it in a small group setting; they could show it in a small group and discuss it together, or they could have somebody watch it at home and then come together and discuss it. They could use it in family worship. One of my thoughts was, "What would I have wanted for my children when I was raising them, in family worship?" Wouldn't it have been great to be able to show them a series of missionary biographies at home and then talk biblically about those principles together? So we set it up for context like that.
Brooks: One of the things that I liked so much about the Missionary series when we first saw the scripts were these are historic themes, these are biblical themes, there's nothing in this that a pastor is going to be queasy about, nervous about, like, "Okay we have to skip that episode or we have to edit out this chunk." Because these are rooted in themes that we see in scripture and then they're played out in these saints that we see going to China, to India, to the New Hebrides, and playing that out and getting to see it in vivid color. I'm really encouraged with the quality of it. We thought through clearly how this is going to look both on the fronts where they grew up and then where they served, and I think that adds to the idea that Christians can produce quality materials. Sometimes Christian materials tend to be of lesser quality. There's various reasons for that, but I think the combination of it being biblical and done to a high level I think that that adds a weightiness to it and it doesn't embarrass the church that is going to be behind it.
